Windows 7 Vs gw.dat
Hey,
Quick question,
Im gonna be hooking up an SSD with windows 7 soon, and instead of re-downloading the entire game, is it possible to get the client, then move the gw.dat file over from the old drive to the new one, or will it cause issues.
I know you can move the skill templates etc over, as i did it with my PC to laptop, but i dont know if the gw.dat file uses any other windows files that will not be linked if i move it,
Cheers

yes, you can do all of that pretty easily. just copy the .dat file and paste it into the new GW folder after you've installed the client.

Just to echo what has been said, yes it works fine.
I copied the .dat files to my back up drive and then drug them over and over wrote the ones in the new installation for Win 7 (64 bit). Everything worked flawlessly.

Remember that if you went from a 32bit OS to a 64bit OS, you need to copy the program to the Program Files (x86) folder, not just Program Files, as that is for 64bit programs.

I'm not that familiar with Win7 (yet), but GW (or pretty much any program) doesn't have to be in "Program Files". You can put GW almost anywhere you want - mine is in D:\Program Files\Guild Wars, (Vista) but it could just as easily be just D:\Guild Wars.
Windows just sets up "Program Files" as a convenient place to put apps together (and it was easiest to just change the C to a D when I installed it, so that's why I have D:\Program Files)
@OP - You don't even need to "install" GW, just copy the entire Guild Wars folder to the new drive. After you move GW to the new drive, simply run "gw.exe" to set it up.

Keep GW away from Program Files in any flavor - if you're moving a gw.dat from Program Files you may find you have problems with access permissions.
